Who do you think might be asking all the questions in the poem?what gives you clues?

Its an interesting poem, maybe an American soldier. The 'sir' certainly suggests american army 'speak'. Or maybe an objecter to the Vietnam war, whether an army or civilian who is comparing their humanity/life to their own?
